Hiring Process

Application

When you first begin your search, take the time to browse through a variety of positions and carefully review the qualifications and required experience. Keep track of the key phrases and terms used in the job description that match your skills and background for more focused results.

Once you have found an opportunity that meets your interest, select “Apply Now” on the job description. You will have the opportunity to upload your resume, import your LinkedIn profile or manually enter your information. During the process of submitting your application you’ll be asked to provide answers regarding your qualifications, which will then be stored in your profile and can be edited any time. We’ll also ask some optional questions that help us identify demographic information; the answers to which are only stored for statistical and reporting purposes. We will notify you upon receipt of your application.

Interview

When our recruiters screen applications for open positions, we only consider candidates who meet the basic qualifications, determined by reviewing the resume against the requirements listed in the job description, for which a person is applying. If selected, you will be contacted by the recruiting team to schedule a phone interview. Upon completing a phone conversation you will progress to hiring team interviews.

When we contact you for an interview, we’ll strive to be transparent regarding the process and timeline for feedback and hiring. Our goal is to facilitate a professional, open and productive opportunity for mutual evaluation. To make sure we’re delivering a positive interview experience, after your interview, we’ll ask you how we did, as we value your input and feedback.

Selection

Following your interview, regardless of whether you’re selected, we will notify you of our decision. If you are selected for hire, the recruiter will extend both a verbal and written offer. All new hires are subject to background screenings, including other requirements depending on the position and location. Your start date will depend on your successful completion of the pre-employment screening process, your availability and business needs.

Protect Yourself from Recruitment Scams

To protect yourself from email and recruiting scams, please note:

  • We don’t accept applications via email or fax.
  • We never ask for money as part of the application process.
  • We only contact job applicants from @aarp.org email addresses or via phone.

Sometimes people claiming to be representatives of AARP pretend to recruit potential employees on behalf of AARP. They’ve been known to offer help securing work permits and visas in exchange for money. Scams typically:

  • Use the Internet or local newspapers and other print materials to advertise false job openings.
  • Request applicants send their application, resume, or CV to an illegitimate email address or fax number.
  • Request that applicants wire funds to a bank account to cover processing and/or immigration fees.

NOTE: If you receive any communication concerning employment opportunities with AARP from an email domain other than @aarp.org the communication is likely not authorized by AARP. If you have any concerns about the legitimacy of AARP careers correspondence, you can email AARP at erecruiting@aarp.org, include “Scam” in the subject line of the email, to confirm.
